Athletics Event Hutton Moor

Practice for WASPS

The children had a wonderful afternoon at Hutton Moor competing with other schools in a range of athletic activities.

Each child had the opportunity to represent Worle Village in two events ranging from relays to vertical jumps.

As usual they were a delight to be with and were super ambassadors for our school.

The children were totally bowled over when we were visited by the Head Girl of BroadOak School.

Maddie came to help us practice, 'Somewhere Over The Rainbow' one of the many songs that will make up the performance at the WASPs event, and gave us an absolutley spell binding rendition that had all the children captivated.

The children were able to ask Maddie about various performances she has taken part in and I know that they would dearly wish her to return to sing for us again.

Thank you Maddie

Bovington Tank Museum Visit

The children had an amazing opportunity to immerse themselves in not only the tanks from WW1 but also life in the trenches. The staff at Bovington Museum really brought the experience alive to the children with their knowledge and expertise. From dressing up in WW1 uniform to exploring inside the tanks, the children were able to fully engage in our topic.

Wonder Woman Cinema Trip

We had a great experience at the Into Film Festival viewing of Wonder Woman where we were able to gain a greater understanding of the period in time of WW1 by seeing the  fashion, technology and life during the world years.

Not only that but we received excellent feedback as ambassadors of Worle Village Primary School via an email from the area manager of Great Western Railways who was notified by both station officers of the exemplary behaviour of our students. Well done year 5 and our year 6 children who joined us.

DT Day

A great day was had by all as we learnt about preparing and cooking a variety of foods. Combining through direct heat by melting foods was explored as we made fudge. Healthy diet was discussed by posing the question, 'Would a diet of daily fudge be healthy?'. Potato rostis required the children to peel, grate and dry potatoes before frying. Carrot cakes explored the use of healthy ingredients into foods considered a treat. Lastly Parkin biscuits as per WW1 looked at how ingredients were used during the time of rationing and linked to our topic for the last two terms.
